NEW CONSTRUCTION DOWNSTREAM
Castle & Cooke plans to build 3,500 new residences in Koa Ridge. To ease traffic in the area, we must fund and complete the needed new infrastructure now. This construction will provide many needed jobs. If elected, Marilyn will make the creation and funding of traffic relief a priority.
REOPENING OF THE SCHOOLS
With schools reopening August 4, we need adequate funds to provide students and their families with critical services. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly recommends "having students physically present in schools” (read more at aap.org). This will mean cooperation between the community, business, parents and schools.
THE AGING OF OUR COMMUNITY
Most Mililani seniors are active and many play pickle ball, but those in Long Term Care facilities and Care homes are especially vulnerable to Covid-19. Marilyn will work to provide more help for family caregivers in our community so more Kupuna can remain in their homes. She will also continue to press the City to fix uneven sidewalks—a fall hazard that can lead to serious health concerns. She will also step in to help lead the Kupuna Caucus. Remember, ageism is discrimination.
SUPPORT FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES
Many local small businesses have gone under, and others are struggling. Small businesses support the community and provide jobs. Marilyn will support legislation to discontinue the REIT (the Real Estate Investment Trust, which is one tax advantage the Big Guys have) and help small businesses survive and thrive.
HARDENING OUR HOMES, SCHOOLS AND PUBLIC BUILDINGS
We need to prepare to make homes safer so that families can “shelter in place” during the coming inevitable severe storms. Solutions exist, however many of them are expensive. If elected, Marilyn will propose tax credits for improvements such as window protection, roof protection and single wall strengthening to make sure our community is ready to withstand severe weather.
